The most important meals of my life (so far)

If you are anything like me, your memories are distinguished by 3 things: the person you were with, the people you were with, and what you were eating at the time. Guilty, establish friendships, learn lessons – they all revolve around food. These are some of my most cherished memories of what I was eating, and what they meant to me.

1. Notorious Chipsy King, 2011

Allow me to set the scene: Amsterdam during Ramadan. 19 hours fast. My father accidentally drove my 9-year-old brother and I entered the Red Light District directly and I thought the butt plugs were mini lava lamps. It was close to sunset, it was almost time for our break, as we passed through the warm, glowing faces. Chipsy KingGeneral Chat Chat Lounge This sodium heavy safe space welcomed us with open arms, and we were left with enough chips to feed the One Trap family to some extent, even some good ones.

After an hour in our hotel room and myself, my parents and my brother are struggling with the Mayo-wet fry after the Mayo-soaked fry. Last thing we did in Ramadan was to waste food, but Chipsy King Beat us With no food left to spare and trans fat and crime recovered in our hotel room, numerous chips were disposed of in a dumpster behind our hotel. To this day, Ramadan has brought painful memories Chipsy King For my family and me. We are sorry, we are pine, but most importantly, we mourn.

2. Bonding Pastries and Chocolate Milk, 2013-2015

When we were in school, between the ages of 15 to 17, I had one of my best friends and my ritual. Every single day, during our breaks, we would buy every sausage pastry and chocolate milk and have them sit and cry while laughing at each other. After that we have spent 5 years drinking black and peppermint tea to fight home and sugar, and I have no regrets. Pulling in our backpack for a loose change, if any of us was lacking cash, when we took off our shirts and began to squeeze pastry flakes, when the bell rang, this fifteen minute transfer was giving really scary advice. Were. Golden. Pastries and flavored milk have never been the same.

3. Dream Pesto Pasta, 2015

For the first time, I was not ready to make a living by myself at university. I could cook two things, neither of them very well. I was also not 100% convinced of the fact that I was not proud of how to use a can opener. So when one of my flatmates taught me how to make decent coffee pesto pasta, I was riding. The pasta needed to boil, the sauce came out of the jar, and there was no limit to what you could add.

So, I made pasta for weeks, and then for months. Until, you know, my first first term was over and I avoided it with toast and pesto pasta. You may be surprised to know that something changed when I went back after Christmas. The aroma of pesto made me shiver. The taste made me lick it. I did not eat pesto. Sometimes food teaches you lessons that people can't, and pesto pasta taught me that I need to grow up.

4. Old Carrot Cake, 2018

For years, I've been eating one slice of carrot cake at the same cafe in Colombo. This is the best I have ever had, so I thought it was appropriate to order someone like my 21st birthday cake. I wanted to make it fresh, presented to me no There are two candles in the form of a '2' and '1', but there are 21 individual candles for maximum effect.

I smoked a large bite of this cake with a mixed-race baby smuggler at an international school in Colombo. So imagine my horror when I tasted it. nothing As it usually is. My birthday is ruined (dramatic, I know, but if you've read it yet you understand that I am in a relationship with that person). I didn't even think about it until the next day when I thought I'd give it a second chance. The icing is gone only 24 hours after the icing. Lesson here? Sometimes you have to let things sit for a while.

From my dirty break up with Basil, I have a million memories of eating and drinking. I highly recommend you create your own.
